Last weekend the students of Garden State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy were treated to a omaplata seminar by black belt and owner of GrapplersGuide.com, Jason Scully. In addition, there were some BIG belt promotions. Over 30 kids and adults attended the seminar and we had attendees from 4 different academies.
Coach Chris, Coach Danilo, and Jason started the belt promotion ceremony by promoting Collin Kelly of Long Branch, to the rank of blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Collin is an very dedicated student and a hard worker. Because of this he made huge improvements in the past year he’s been training at Garden State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Next it was time to promote to the rank of purple belt. First up was Russell Terlecki of Rumson. Russell is one of Garden State BJJ’s most active competitors. As a former college wrestler, he brings and intensity to his training that makes him fierce competitor and a tough training partner for even the most elite grappler.
Kyle Thompson-Bass, of Red Bank was next. Kyle is one of the most dedicated students at Garden State BJJ. Not only is he extremely regimented with he schedule of coming to classes, he is always doing extra work outside of class to make himself even better. Kyle excels as a leader at GSBJJ and is always helping new people.
Finally, our last promotion of the day was Anthony Santoro of Middletown. Anthony has been training for a long time and has become incredibly technical. Following his recent 2nd place medal at NJBJJF, it is evident that he is not only a fantastic kids coach and training partner but also a formidable competitor as well. Anthony is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet but he’s got a wicked side control game!
All and all, it was a great day for the Garden State BJJ team. We will definitely be having more seminars in the future and its really cool to see a few more colored belts on the mats. After last weekend, four GSBJJ students
