Garden State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy (Located in The Middletown Fire Department) has had some awesome competition performances this month!. We had over a dozen members of our team compete a NAGA Battle at the Beach in Wildwood, Brown Belt Marcus Johnson won his super fight at Fight To Win in front of thousands of online and in person spectators, and finally another dozen competitors took the fight to NJBJJF at St John Vainney in Hazlet. At NJBJJF, Garden State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy was able to take double bronze as the 3rd place overall team for both kids and adult points! We also have one of our blue belts, Melissa Gardner, leaving to compete at the IBJJF Master’s World Championships in Las Vegas this weekend. It has been a busy month for team GSBJJ! Check out some of the pictures below from this month’s competitions!

Over 100 kids, students, and parents were able to make it (even though we had to reschedule due to rain) and everyone had an awesome time.
This year’s Garden State BJJ Team Day featured a raffle with 100% of proceeds going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We were able to raise $650 due to the following businesses who generously helped us out with prizes and support for the event:
All Jersey Systems
Garden State Car Wash
Cluck U Red Bank
This year we also had superlative awards! You can check out some of the pictures below. Awards included “Technical Monster”, “Lives on the Mats”, and “Most Improved”. The biggest award of all though, “Student of The Year”, was awarded to Marcus Johnson! Memebers of the GSBJJ adult program voted online and selected Marcus as this year’s champion.
2017’s Team Day was a blast and we’re already looking forward to 2018’s event. We hope to see you there![/st_text][/st_column][/st_row]
Star Wars Night, also known as Parents Night Out, was a great success! The students got to enjoy spending time together outside of their structured routine, and parents received a well needed night to enjoy their free time as well. The night started off strong with a challenging yet fun obstacle course set up by Coach Maureen. At first, the obstacle course seemed almost impossible when everyone failed their first attempt. To no surprise, the students (and few of their friends) at GSBJJ overcame this defeat, with will-power, strategy and of course, their newly-found Jedi Force!
Next, the kids broke up into 2 groups for Jedi Training. While half the group played pin the lightsaber on Yoda, the other half learned how to use their lightsabers. Thankfully, the lightsabers were made of foam for the safety of everyone in the building! Lightsaber training included three different games to keep the kids moving.
After the games, we joined forces to watch a movie on the projector screen.
Pizza was delivered at the perfect time to feed our hungry Jedi knights while they watched the movie.
After the movie all the young Jedi knights were once again ready to test their lightsaber skills against a new opponent – a Darth Vader Pinata! With the few minutes we had left before the Jedis returned home we played a familiar game of Jedi Gaga, and discussed our favorite parts of the night. All in all, Star Wars Night, and Parents Night Out, was a great time for both the GSBJJ kids and the parents that got to drop them off. Thank you to Coach Rob, Coach Barry, Coach Evan, Coach Maureen, DJ Jimmy, and Coach Julian for helping out! Make sure enter your information to find out more information about our kids programs and special events!
